Dysfunction rampant in Washington, D.C.

Editor,

Conflicts, in the form of disagreements regarding how to deal with the inevitable vagaries that life presents us with, are a normal part of life. How conflicts are dealt with by a group of people determines whether that group is functional or dysfunctional.

At the national level, if the people elected to serve all of us and this country are functional, conflicts get resolved because the majority of those elected are focused on resolving any conflicts for the benefit of the country and people who elected them.

They stay focused on that goal instead of becoming focused on any goal that would benefit them alone at the expense of the country and people who elected them.

And, at the national level, if the people elected to serve all of us and the country are dysfunctional, conflicts never get resolved because instead of being focused on worthwhile goals, which would benefit all the people and the country and lead to resolution of any conflict, some members of the group, who are not currently in positions of power, are only focused on the goal of continuing the conflict.

That is because focusing on that will result in those currently in positions of power not being able to accomplish anything, which will make them look like failures and make them easier to defeat in the next election.

Pay close attention to the words and actions of some of the people currently elected to serve you and this country who are not currently in positions of power. It will become apparent to you why conflicts are not being resolved in Washington, D. C., and that this country is continuing to sink from a functional level to lower and lower dysfunctional levels.
