Higher requirements for scholarship is inequality

Editor,

I am a student who, with the increase of the Bridge to Success Scholarship standards of a 3.0 GPA and a 23 ACT score, would have still been able to get the scholarship, and I write to tell you that not all of us are made equal. I fight against this increase because I know that there are families out there whose small hopes of getting their kids to college are diminishing.

I fight, not because I’m “misguided” or standing up for students who don’t perform up to “standards,” but because I know, after researching actual New Mexico ACT scores and GPA statistics, the horrible impact these increases will have on our New Mexico students.

I don’t fight for one particular group, I fight for equality! We all deserve the right to a higher education. This institution was built to help us widen our knowledge and not to exclude those who need the extra help.
