Other campus activities more shameful than sex

Editor,

I strongly support “Sex Week” at UNM and thank and compliment Summer Little, Omar Torres, Addie Gillespie, Hunter Riley and many more.

Why is it more acceptable for campus vending machines and restaurants to sell health-destroying crap than it is to celebrate sex? Why is violent football with lifelong brain injuries from concussions more acceptable than celebrating sex? Why is it acceptable to train ROTC students to fight in U.S. wars but not to celebrate sex? Why is campus research on weapons of mass destruction more acceptable than celebrating sex?

When has UNM’s administration made public apologies for these evils?

I wish my college had a “celebrate sex week” when I was a student from 1964-1966. It took me years to detox from sexual ignorance, shame and repression and from an unhealthy addiction to religion.

Sadly, millions go to their graves never feeling at home in their naked bodies and never enjoying shame-free, passionate sex and romance with anyone.

As long as I live, I want to keep a zest for good sex wanted and enjoyed by all involved. Will we humans learn from our bonobo cousins?

War, racism, paying tax for war, rape, revenge, greed, boxing and grudges are all obscene. Naked bodies making love are not obscene.

Make love, not war.
