Letter: Israeli PM's threat ignored by media

Editor,

It is no secret that the “special relationship” between the United States and Israel has been strained as of late. An anonymous senior U.S. official was quoted calling Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu a “chicken shit.”

Netanyahu seemed to blame the harsh words on President Barack Obama, and responded in the Israeli parliament with some strong words that seemed to allude to the assassination of the late President John F. Kennedy. Netanyahu said in the Israeli parliament, “When there are pressures on Israel to concede its security, the easiest thing to do is to concede. You get a round of applause, ceremonies on grassy knolls, and then come the missiles and the tunnels.”

In the past, Netanyahu lived in the United States, and he surely can’t be so ignorant as to not know that Americans would be reminded about the tragic assassination of the late President Kennedy. So why is the media being so quiet about this?

If the new president of Iran had said these words, I suspect the mainstream media would already be screaming to high hell for war. However, it seems that an Israeli prime minister can publicly threaten the life of a sitting U.S. president in Tel Aviv and everything is cool. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

If the United States would condemn a country like Iran for indirectly threatening the life of President Obama, then the same standard needs to be applied to the prime minister of Israel.
