Editor,
In this year’s campaign for the Public Regulation Commission, candidate Lynda Lovejoy ran unopposed yet accepted and spent $26,000 of public financing on her campaign. If it sounds like a rat, looks like a rat, acts like a rat, it must be a rat.
The first order of business for the New Mexico Legislature had better be passing a law that prohibits unopposed candidates from taking public campaign financing. While the law currently allows those candidates who are running unopposed to accept and spend public-funded dollars, is it really the right thing to do? I think not.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Paul
