The UNM Conservative Republicans are disappointed to find that ASUNM recently passed a resolution supporting the issuing of licenses to illegal immigrants. Last school year, our student organization showed documentaries with the goal of informing the UNM community of the economic cost of illegal immigration and the security risks of an open border policy.
Through the documentaries and our own research, we demonstrated how costly illegal immigrants are to the U.S. healthcare system and our educational and judicial institutions.
We also proved how ignoring illegal immigration exposes citizens to danger from the criminal element that comes with breaking border laws.
Our UNM student organization asks that when voting on resolutions such as this, the members of ASUNM do research and have more consideration to the problems that come with allowing illegal immigration.
