A pair of New Mexico coaches were honored with the 2015 Regents’ Meritorious Service Award on Friday.
The award presented to Joe Franklin and Bob Davie at the UNM Board of Regents meeting is to honor individuals who have contributed to the University community over the years. It also didn’t hurt that Franklin brought home a cross country national championship and Davie introduced UNM to its first bowl game since 2007.
In Davie’s fourth year heading the program, he brought the Lobos to the team’s first winning season since the 2007 season under then-head coach Rocky Long. New Mexico (7-5, 5-3 MW) will take on the Arizona Wildcats on Saturday, Dec. 19 at noon.
Franklin has accumulated eight years to his resume as the leader for UNM’s cross country and track team. Franklin’s award shelf has been bolstered this year with the 2015 USTFCCCA Mountain Region Women’s Coach of the Year, the Mountain West Women’s Coach of the Year and the USTFCCCA National Women’s Coach of the Year, along with his national title and now the UNM Board of Regents Meritorious Service Award.
