Editor,
While I am sympathetic to the democratic socialism of Bernie Sanders, I do not believe that he will be the eventual Democratic presidential nominee. Sanders does have the support of many young voters, and young voters are about as reliable as drunkards. In the event that Sanders is eventually defeated by that darling of Wall Street and warmonger Hilary Clinton; I ask Sanders voters to consider supporting the presidential candidacy of Green Party’s Jill Stein. While third party Presidential candidates are usually shunned by many as pointless, I personally find political indifference to be much more reprehensible. Is it not obvious to those paying attention to politics in this country that Democrats will needlessly go to war with weaker nations just as soon as any Republican? Is it not obvious that Democrats will just as enthusiastically sign off on Big Brother laws which take away our personal rights and freedoms just as soon as any Republican? In a perfect world Bernie Sanders would be the next U.S. president and we would enter into a new phase of peaceful coexistence with our fellow human beings around the world, but sad to say we don’t live in a perfect world. Once the Bern wears off, I would respectfully ask his supporters to not fall into disillusionment or despair. Jill Stein’s politics are much closer to Bernie Sanders than Hillary Clinton, and if you care about the state of democracy in our country, then make your politics as delicious as your New Mexico chile and vote Green.
