Wrestling Column: Shane McMahon will deliver at WrestleMania

It’s still hard to fathom that Shane McMahon is in one of the premier matches for WrestleMania 32.

When it was announced three weeks ago that McMahon will face the legendary Undertaker in a Hell in a Cell match at WrestleMania, it came as a complete shock for fans. McMahon hadn’t been seen on WWE television since 2009 and left the company early in 2010.

The fact that McMahon is even in this position shows how much injuries have wrecked WWE’s roster. However, fans who are skeptical that McMahon-Undertaker match won’t deliver need not to worry.

Even though McMahon never intended on becoming a wrestler, he has always been one of the more entertaining acts when he has entered the squaredcircle.

McMahon is and always has been willing to take high risks. All fans need to do is watch him get suplexed by Kurt Angle into a glass wall or when he dived off the Titantron onto Big Show in a last man standing match. Those are just a couple of McMahon’s crazy moments when he was wrestling.

This match won’t and shouldn’t be a technical display. It’s going to be two veterans who are going to beat the living hell out of each other. That’s why Vince McMahon decided to make it a Hell in a Cell match.

The only problem that might hinder this match at all is ring rust for Shane McMahon, whose last match was a three-on-three tag team contest at Backlash in 2009. That’s a lot of time in-between matches for a wrestler that never actually wrestled that often in the first place.

It would be more of a cause for concern if it was someone else. Shane wrestled pretty irregularly and didn’t seem to miss a beat when he had time off. His longest layoff between matches during his hay day was two years and a couple of months.

Another reason why there shouldn’t be much worry is that Shane is wrestling the Undertaker at WrestleMania. The Undertaker has delivered time and time again at WWE’s biggest show of the year for the past decade.

The only recent match that was a flop for the Deadman was at WrestleMania XXX because he got knocked out early in the match and never recovered.

All the factors point in favor of a memorable match at WrestleMania. This is one of three co-main events along with Brock Lesnar vs. Dean Ambrose and Triple H vs. Roman Reigns.

If there’s one superstar that can come out of pseudo-retirement and put on a show it’s definitely Shane McMahon.
