The Wyatts have been wasted

The WWE loves to distort reality.

From stretching a wrestler’s physical dimensions to how devastating someone’s finisher is, this kind of talk has been the basis of wrestling since its inception.

The problem is that some wrestlers who are to be perceived as a destructive force aren’t portrayed that way at all. One faction in particular has suffered greatly from this is the Wyatt Family.

The Wyatt Family is supposedly a cult faction that will wreck anyone that crosses their path. WWE’s commentators point out that their leader, Bray Wyatt, is an “eater of worlds” and is one of the most dangerous wrestlers today. The other members – Luke Harper, Erick Rowan and Bruan Strowman – look formidable and have shown to be intimidating.

However, the booking of the Wyatt Family says otherwise. The Wyatt Family has looked more like a bunch of incoherent hillbillies than a fiendish cult.

It partly has to due to the fact that The Wyatt Family never seems to ever win a feud with anyone. The other factor is when they do win it’s in a hokey fashion that doesn’t seem plausible even in the reality bending world of the WWE.

One of the most glaring examples of this is when Bray beat John Cena in a steel cage match at Extreme Rules two years ago. Bray won the match by escaping the cage when Cena was distracted by a singing child wearing the Wyatt’s signature sheep mask.

That’s about as ridiculous as it gets in the WWE and that win didn’t help the Wyatts at all. Bray’s feud with Cena should’ve been the start of something special instead Bray lost in the grudge match a month later.

It does feel like ever since Bray lost to Cena that his stock has catered but that really isn’t the case. The Wyatts have been given numerous opportunities since that feud, but the WWE for some reason doesn’t want to give them what they need the most: a win.

Two weeks ago at WWE’s Fastlane, Harper, Rowan and Strowman lost to the team of Kane, Big Show and Ryback. A team of glorified enhancement talent beat what is supposedly one of the scariest factions in the WWE.

The next night on Raw Bray, Harper and Rowan got back the win but the damage was already done. The Wyatts should’ve never lost to Kane, Big Show and Ryback because the fans know that they aren’t a threat to anyone.

The Wyatt Family has lost some of its luster because of losses like the one at Fastlane. No one is fearful of the Wyatts because there’s nothing to be worried about.

Bray Wyatt is one of the better talkers in the WWE but no one listens to his promos because he’s nonsensical and his words mean nothing if he can’t back them up.

WWE has a problem because it needs The Wyatt Family to be a strong faction. The Wyatts should be the faction that runs roughshod on everyone and does what it pleases when it wants.

Instead, we get a group that nobody cares about or takes seriously. That’s the WWE’s fault.

The Wyatt Family will only matter when in the WWE finally decides that they do. Let’s just hope its sooner rather than later.
