Letter: New Mexico's water needs to be protected

Editor,

As a native New Mexican and a college student, I care a lot about having clean drinking water in this city. Not having clean drinking water is a big problem for all of us, but it’s especially a big problem for our kids and future generations of New Mexicans.

Growing up in New Mexico my father and I went on a lot of river rafting trips in New Mexico on rivers like the Rio Chama and a lot of the other rivers. On these rivers we saw a great deal of cans and trash floating in the water and by the river banks that people had left. As someone who wants to have kids someday I would really like to see New Mexico’s water clean and safe to drink for not only my children but everyone else and their children as well.

We all know how deplorable this issue is and its effect on our water supply, and yet people continue to remain careless. I humbly ask Bernalillo county and anyone else in charge of New Mexico waterways to try to address this issue by making our drinking water cleaner and safer for everyone.
