Editor,
One of the special benefits of getting one’s higher education in the USA is that American universities often have folks on campus from many different parts of the world – studying together, working in labs together, performing together and hopefully partying together.
But presidential candidate Trump seems to draw out uneducated and therefore narrow minded jingoists. An obnoxious example is his recent mocking of Asian Indians (of whom there are vast numbers on American campuses) when, during a rally speech, he mimicked to much hoarse laughter among his obviously bigoted fans the voice of an Indian call center worker, boasting he had placed this fake call (how much of Trump is fake?), then he gestured like he had hung up on the worker.
It is actually businesspersons of Trump’s ilk who benefit by taking jobs like at call centers abroad. By this kind of contracting, the stressful work is being done by Indian workers. It is made doubly stressful because they have to take crap from verbally abusive Americans. They even have a name for this unique kind of stress over in India: BOSS (burnout stress syndrome). But guess what? The profits are made by the American businessperson who is contracting out, not in India.
For Trump then to play up the blaming of India, or China or Singapore or Vietnam, by ignorant (read again: uneducated) American white collar workers is the height of rabble-rousing deception.
