UNM reactions to the first presidential debate

Election Day is looming, and passions are high with the voting population. The first presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton aired Monday night, and it had viewers in the SUB — most of them UNM students — saying some impassioned things.

Here are some reactions to Trump’s tax plan:

“He’s gonna do what?”

“This is insane!”

There wasn’t much support for The Donald’s plan. But the debate itself spurred some positive remarks as the audience was held captivated by both candidates’ comments .

“This is awesome!”

“He just made a fat joke!”

But mostly it was criticism of Trump’spolicies, and his refusal to release his tax returns.

“Come on, Trump! What’re you hiding?”

“What about your tax returns?”

“That’s not how it works!”

I guess being audited doesn’t prevent you from releasing your tax returns.

There wasn’t as much criticism of Clinton , save for one comment that took both candidates into account.

“Why do both of their hairdos look so weird?”

That’s HDTV for you.

But how did the crowd react to Trump’s support of the practice of “Stop and Frisk”? One reaction summed it up.

“Oh my god!”

And his diversion?

“How did we get to ISIS from police reform?”

The Daily Lobo hoped to hear opinions from supporters of Trump, but it would seem that they are far and few between in the UNM area.

But out of all the comments the Daily Lobo heard, this next one can be met with approval from every party:

“Oh cool! Someone brought cupcakes!”

Who could debate against cupcakes?
