Dear James Lewis, President, UNM Alumni Association:
Your recent call to action would be a much easier cause to support if the administration was willing to take a look at low-performing professors and strip them of their tenure. UNM wastes a tremendous amount of its scarce resources by not holding its staff accountable.
Not only is this unfair to the tuition payer who is continually short-changed, but it is also unfair to the tax payer who is forced to support what passes for higher education in our state.
I agree, the proposed cuts will impact the University, but these temporary cuts don’t do near as much to limit learning as teachers who are unwilling to teach.
