OPINION: Bobbleheads of the week — NBA, Feb. 1-6

This week in the NBA, we saw interesting trades, blowout wins and closely fought games. Along with that, we saw three bobbleheads emerge.

Nico Harrison

The first non-player to be featured as a bobblehead is Nico Harrison. He is the general manager of the Dallas Mavericks, and on Saturday, Feb. 1, he might have made a case for himself not to hold the position anymore.

Harrison decided to get rid of 25-year-old superstar Luka Dončić and ship him off to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a first-round pick in 2029.

While Davis is not a bad player and can produce at a high level if needed, he is headed toward the tail end of his career at 31 years old. Davis has also had a series of injuries that have hindered his potential throughout his career.

Christie is not a bad player either, but it feels like the Mavericks got barely anything in return for their generational superstar — making Harrison a bobblehead.

Max Strus

On Tuesday, Feb. 4, the Cleveland Cavaliers looked to make a statement against the reigning champion Boston Celtics. Cleveland has looked good so far this year, and going into the game, they had played the Celtics twice with each team getting a win.

Cleveland lost the Feb. 4 game to the Celtics at home 112-105 and a big reason for that was Max Strus’ performance.

Strus played 29 minutes and was only able to amass 2 points on 1-4 shooting going 0-2 from three, six rebounds and one assist. You would expect a little bit more production with the time he was on the court. If he had done more, maybe Cleveland would’ve beat Boston and Strus wouldn’t be a bobblehead.

Strus did, however, have a bounce-back game vs. the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

Paul George

Paul George has had many nicknames throughout his career: PG, PG-13 and Playoff P. This week, he can add another one: bobblehead.

George has had an iffy year with the Philadelphia 76ers. He has not played to the best standard and it showed on Feb. 5.

While George was coming back from a five-game absence due to injury, he still played 32 minutes and was only able to post 9 points on 3-11 shooting in a loss to the heat. Not his best game, but George will look to shake the bobblehead title off when the 76ers play the Detroit Pistons on Friday, Feb. 7.
