The University of New Mexico’s volleyball team is getting ready to get back on the court for the 2026-27 season.
On Tuesday, the team hosted its preseason media day. Over the past year, the team's coaching staff has been flipped on its side — including the hiring of a new head coach — and with a new season on the horizon, the team has worked to come together and sharpen its craft.
“There's going to be a lot of conversation about our mentality and what we're bringing to the table and how we're going to fight together to create opportunities to score points and win games. And so we're just going to continue to grow and develop our players,” Hosfeld said.
During the offseason, the team traveled abroad for a 12-day European tour from June 2–14. The tour included Prague, Czech Republic; Vienna, Austria; Maribor, Slovenia; and Milan, Italy.
Opposite hitter Addison France spoke about how the trip to Europe helped bring the team together.
“We all were able to bond so much, and just experiencing another country where most of us have never been before, or another continent, that was just such a team experience that not everybody gets,” France said.
Hosfeld called the team’s recent training and preparation for the coming season “tremendous.”
“The girls have been working their tails off, and I think they are feeling good,” Hosfeld said.
For the first time since 1999, the Lobo volleyball team will be back in The Pit, and this week, the team will be going up against Northern Arizona and Arizona in back-to-back exhibitions held in the arena on Friday night and Saturday afternoon, respectively.
“So excited we're finally able to play in the Pit,” France said. “This new coaching staff has really worked hard to make it happen, and so having this experience for us, playing good teams in there, we really want to show the community how much we've improved and inspire everybody here to come watch volleyball, and come watch women's volleyball.”
