Where there’s a victor, there’s a loser, and sometimes, certain athletes contribute to their team’s shortcomings. These athletes are favorably called bobbleheads.
The NFL draft and NBA playoffs are here and we have seen a bobbleheaded pick and bobbleheaded performance.
Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams possessed the 13th overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft and decided to use that pick on Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson. Simpson was projected by many to be a second or third round draft pick, making the Rams decision to select Simpson that high a head-scratcher.
On top of that, there were many other prospects who were still available that could have been immediate starters for the Rams, with the most obvious one being wide receiver Makai Lemon, who would have filled a glaring hole in the team’s wide receiver three spot and given reigning MVP quarterback Matthew Stafford another weapon. Instead, Lemon fell to the 20th pick, being selected by the Philadelphia Eagles.
To add insult to injury, the 2027 quarterback class is stacked with high-end talent such as Dante Moore, Julian Sayin, Arch Manning and LaNorris Sellers, who are all more intriguing talents than Simpson.
Simpson could still turn out to be a solid quarterback in the future, currently set to sit and learn behind Stafford, but for a team that is a Super Bowl contender with a win-now mindset, this is a bobblehead-esque move.
New York Knicks: forward Josh Hart
Game three in the series between the Knicks and the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA playoffs ended in chaotic fashion, as Hawks guard CJ McCollum hit the game winning shot to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead over the Knicks. The three seeded Knicks did not receive much help from forward Josh Hart, who had a game he would probably want to forget.
While Hart did his job on the boards, grabbing 9 rebounds, he failed to show up in the scoring category. Hart shot 1-9 from the field, going 0-4 from three — all while playing 40 minutes. In the playoffs, your best is required at all times, and Hart did not give his best which contributed to this soul snatching loss. The Knicks will look to avoid going down 3-1 on Saturday, April 25.
