Bringing hip-hop and street culture to the international stage touring throughout the world, from Broadway to the Sydney Opera, ‘360 ALLSTARS’ makes a stop at Popejoy Hall this Friday, May 15.
Performers from a variety of backgrounds showcase BMX biking, basketball freestyle, acrobatics and percussion, forming an urban circus performance seen by millions of people worldwide.
Josh Curtis, a Cyr wheel acrobat, is one of the many coming from around the world to perform in Albuquerque.
Curtis said he is originally from a small village in the U.K., where he grew up teaching himself to breakdance with his friends before he decided to make it a career and go to circus school.
“For me personally, (360 ALLSTARS) is living a dream of mine,” Curtis said. “It's like this big culmination of everything that I've wanted to do in life, bringing audiences joy, making them think, ‘wow’, wanting to get into things that maybe push their bodies as well to the limits.”
Based out of Australia and led by musician Gene Peterson, 360 ALLSTARS is communicated without speech;, performers communicate and express themselves through rhythm and movement with a soundtrack from a live DJ, embracing talent that is born in the streets of urban neighborhoods.
The cast is made up of many world champions and world record-holding athletes and artists, according to a Popejoy Hall press release.
Curtis said he looks forward to coming to Albuquerque for the first time.
“I'd say get ready for sick flips and quick tricks, some breakneck speed, some breakneck action, get ready to vibe, to just let go of the outside world, enjoy an hour of being wow-ed, being moved, and just having a good time with friends and family.” Curtis said.
