Simon Reseigh’s first article was an opinion article, an article type he would continue to write during his time at the Daily Lobo. From “Bobbleheads of the Week” to predictions, Reseigh always had something to say.
“I’m a big yapper when it comes down to sports, and I have some very strong opinions on certain teams and how I feel about certain teams, so I thought, might as well just throw it out into the universe and let everyone read my ramblings and see if the agree or if they think I am a crazy person,” Reseigh said.
No team or player was safe from Reseigh’s takes, not even his own sports teams. Reseigh is a die-hard fan of the Green Bay Packers and Colorado Avalanche, but that did not stop him from calling them, and certain players on those teams, out when writing bobbleheads of the week.
Reseigh is majoring in journalism, and joined the Daily Lobo thanks to his wife, Izabella Kubiak-Reseigh, who also worked for the Daily Lobo.
“My wife got into the journalism program and told me how she liked it, and we’re both huge sports fans so it was kind of just a perfect blend of everything, it was just what I wanted to do,” Reseigh said.
Reseigh covered an array of sports during his tenure.
“The (New Mexico) United games were really fun to cover, I got to cover an Isotopes game with my wife, just getting to go places and write about sports and talk to people was always super fun,” Reseigh said. ”It’s probably going to be one of the things I miss the most.”
Reseigh wrote 16 articles for the Daily Lobo while serving in the U.S Army. In the future, Reseigh plans on using his Army experience for a current career but plans to freelance as much as he can on the side.
“I just want to give a thank you to everyone. It was one of the most fun things I got to do and one of the most college things I got to do since I didn’t really get to have a normal college experience,” Reseigh said. “I really appreciate my wife for getting me into this field and helping me get this job and nudging me in this direction and also being super supportive of everything I do.”
There is definitely a place for Simon Reseigh in the future of sports journalism, leaving the Lobo with one final take: “Packers 17-0 Super Bowl Champions all day, everyday,” he said.
