Opinion: Bobbleheads of the week

Where there’s a victor, there’s a loser, and sometimes, certain athletes contribute to their team’s shortcomings. These athletes are favorably called bobbleheads.

Philadelphia Eagles - Quarterback Jalen Hurts

The Eagles came into Chicago to face the Bears and got carved up by backup quarterback Case Keenum, who outplayed Philadelphia’s former Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts. Hurts had a quiet game, as he completed 16 of 25 passes for 153 yards, and an interception. He did have a rushing touchdown as time expired in the first half, but that was his best play of the game as the offense only scored those seven points. In his defense, backup quarterback Andy Dalton threw an interception in the end zone on a good drive where Hurts was temporarily knocked out of the game, further hindering Philly’s attack.

Chicago Cubs - Center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong

The Chicago Cubs had an abrupt exit from the playoffs, as they were swept in the NL Central Wild Card Series by the San Diego Padres. Cubs Center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong was a shell of himself, as he had 0 hits or runs on 7 combined at-bats in Chicago’s two playoff games. Crow-Armstrong has been a frontrunner for the National League MVP as he had 175 hits, 45 home runs and 41 stolen bases in the regular season. However, he was not able to elevate his play — and his team — in the playoffs.

Vancouver Canucks - Goaltender Kevin Lankinen

Seven goals should be enough to win any game of hockey. That was not the case for the Vancouver Canucks, who lost 9-7 in a high scoring affair versus the Edmonton Oilers on Oct. 1. It was a horrible game for Canucks goaltender Kevin Lankinen, who allowed 8 of Edmonton’s 9 goals before being benched. The good news for Vancouver is that the season is early, but they’ll need to improve on defense to win games.
