Ecstasy

“Under the Influence” is a new Daily Lobo series about drug use in Albuquerque.   It’s a natural thing for humans to desire intimacy with one another. How people reach that feeling of closeness is changing, especially in younger people who are reaching out to drugs such as methylenedioxymethamphetamine, more commonly known as ecstasy or MDMA.


	Student Alex Denbaars serenades the plants in Castetter Hall’s biology greenhouse Monday. Denbaars plays the ukulele in a folk-punk band called Arroyo Deathmatch. Denbaars is the promoter for the house/venue called Heaven and Hell.

Alex Denbaars, UNM student, plays the ukulele and sings lead vocals in the punk-folk outfit “Arroyo Deathmatch.” The band returned from its first tour, which lasted 10 days and stretched from Albuquerque to San Francisco.

Rent-able garden boasts local greens

Eating local fruits and vegetables doesn’t have to come at a high price. Albuquerque residents have a couple options for getting local produce — they can rent a garden bed at a community garden or they can buy a produce box from a local farm. Wade Patterson, community planner for the Harwood Art Center, said about four years ago residents from Wells Park/Sawmill neighborhood wanted a way to connect with their food and produce it on their own.

A lot of strange things can happen in a dark movie theater. Adam Hevey and Jessicah Adkins decided to share their love of movies and movie theaters with friends and family on their big, but not extravagant, day. Hevey and Adkins have known each other about 14 years, and, on Saturday, they took their vows at the Guild Cinema.

Med students use art to diagnose patients

The UNM School of Medicine is getting a taste of art from the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe. Students can now take Perspectives in Medicine sessions, in which they study art to construct a skill set for diagnosing patients, said Jackie M., director of education at the museum.

Fiery friends

Great balls of spinning, fiery Kevlar! That’s a common encounter for fire spinners Pierce Knauber-Ferriegel, Tyler Chapman and Stuart Knight-Williamson, members of the group Ignite Poi. The group will perform tonight at the Nob Hill Shop N’ Stroll in front of the Bike Coop.

Student totes live turkey to promote local farming

It’s 3 a.m. — do you know where your turkey is? Gael Whettnall does. He bought his own. On Tuesday, the UNM student carried a live turkey around campus from noon to 1 p.m. to make the point that most of us don’t know where our food comes from. He said he was met with all positive responses.
