Rogers taught us value of love

“When I was a child and would see scary things on the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’” —Fred Rogers In a world of reality television where vacuous supermodels are the ideal, it’s always good to remember a time when things were a little simpler.

LETTER: Question of fairness in countries’ jurisdictions

Editor, The question of fairness regarding Belgium’s right to prosecute Ariel Sharon for an alleged war crime 21 years ago in Lebanon is debatable for sure. The conduct of Ariel Sharon as Israeli Defense Minister 21 years ago in Lebanon is not. The practice of “universal jurisdiction” over war crimes or crimes against humanity is hardly limited to the “Maryland-sized country” of Belgium.

LETTER: Hidden motives in drug war

Editor, Truth to tell, the drug warrior politicians, officials, media and civilians secretly don’t list victory as an objective in their expensive and oppressive trillion-dollar war. When they do spout their “zero tolerance/total victory” rhetoric, how many of your readers actually believe them? How many actually believe that this year’s multibillion-dollar drug war budget will be the one that will achieve total victory after decades of billion dollar budgets have totally failed? Just remember that the drug czars’ and warriors’ jobs depend on the perpetual prosecution of, but never a victory in, the drug war.

Friday’s match up started out strong for UNM as junior right-hander James Vermilyea struck out the first five Air Force batters he faced.
