LETTER: UNM should recycle luminaria remnants

It was nice to see Lewis Jacob's delightful photo of the luminaria glow in Smith Plaza on the front page of Monday's Lobo. However, it was hard for me to enjoy the sight with my knowledge of what happened to these paper lanterns early the next morning. As I walked across campus on my way to Zimmerman Library, I was appalled to see the slumped over luminarias being thrown one after the other into trash bags.

COLUMN: Holidays a time for unity, reflection

There's an old Chinese painting that shows three wise men standing around a vat of vinegar. Each man has dipped his finger into the vinegar and tasted it. The first man wears a sour expression. The second is frowning at its bitterness. The third man is smiling.

Strokes debut album is 'It'

Earlier this year, The Strokes released The Modern Age, a three song EP that single-handedly captured the collective interest of the music scene. With its debut album, Is This It, a frenzy of media accolades erupted, hailing the group as quite possibly the best new band to emerge out of New York - and the United States - in years.

Flowers and cards adorn the wall of Abbey Road Recording Studios in London Sunday after the death of musician George Harrison. An impromptu shrine to the ex-Beatle was created with candles and flowers at the Beatles' most famous London recording studio.

COLUMN: Bush defense of women hypocritical

As bombs drop, marines move in, and a company makes headlines by "playing god" in a sterilized lab, our collectivized fear is cushioned in blankets of self-congratulatory speeches. Bush, Colin Powell, and several others have recently commented on our "heroic mission" in Afghanistan as bringing freedom to Afghanistan women.
