LETTER: All bicyclists should follow campus rules

Editor,

Enough with the whining about the bicycle racks already.

While I sympathize with those who have the horrible misfortune of having to lock their precious modes of transportation out of their sight, welcome to the real world! The typical UNM bicyclist wants to be treated as a vehicle out on the streets of the campus. While you want the vehicular traffic to treat you as equal on the roadway, you also want the privilege of being treated as a pedestrian.

Many other UNM commuters and I are tired of the same old story. You weave in and out of traffic, ignore traffic signs and signals and have little or no respect for other traffic or pedestrians. Then, while the rest of us are required to leave our mode of transportation out in the parking lot, you whine about not being able to lock your bicycle as close to the doorway as possible.

If you want to be treated as an equal, do what the rest of us do. Park where it is legal to park and suffer the consequences for parking elsewhere.

Individuals, disabled or not, should not have to worry about access and exits to buildings being blocked by insensitive, self-centered bicyclists. So, for your own good, grow up!
