New holiday makes shopping less taxing

Kathleen Baca, spokeswoman for New Mexico Taxation and Revenue, said the tax break is meant to keep money in the state during a similar tax holiday in Texas.

Daily Lobo: What is ASUNM? Brittany Jaeger: It's the undergraduate student government; it's comprised of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches. The executive branch is myself. I have a presidential aide, I have a webmaster, and then I also have seven executive agencies underneath me, which go from Craft Studio, Southwest Film Center, Lobo Spirit, Student Special Events, and the Lobby Committee.

Brief: Body found on campus, cause of death unknown

(Daily Lobo) - The body of a Hispanic man in his mid-40s was found on campus Tuesday. UNM police received the call around 2 p.m. Cmdr. James Daniels of the UNM Police Department said the death was unattended, meaning no one was there to witness the death.

UNM leaders concerned about funds

by Katy Knapp Daily Lobo Jamie Koch, president of UNM's Board of Regents, said he is concerned the University will not get enough funding next year. "In two years, we've raised tuition and fees by 21 percent," he said in an interview Wednesday. "We're not going to be able to raise it like we did in the past.

Research labs make scientists sweat

Parking costs rise to pay for buses

by Patricia Dworzak Daily Lobo The price of parking at UNM is going up for the 2005-2006 academic year. According to UNM's parking and transportation Web site, prices went up from $66 to $76 for South and G Lots, from $116 to $128 for the T Lot. Parking prices went up 10 percent in the 2004-2005 academic year.

UNM President Louis Caldera said appointing Breda Bova as his senior adviser is one of the best additions he has made to his staff. "This has been one of my more inspired choices," he said. "I thought she'd be great because she's very well-liked and respected across campus.

Lobo Center ahead of schedule

The Lobo Center at Lomas and University might be finished a few weeks early and under budget. Bill Davis, senior superintendent of the project, said the project might come in under its $10.8 million budget, and UNM will probably get a refund. Andrew Cullen, budget administrator, said the refund will probably be about $700,000, which will go back to UNM building funds.

"He took me home to a little two-room house in a mill village," he said Tuesday in front of a crowd at Civic Plaza that was rallying for a minimum wage increase in Albuquerque.

Mayoral hopefuls have been recruiting young people to help get them on the ballot. Brian Eagan, a UNM law student, has volunteered on Mayor Martin Ch†vez's last two campaigns. "I believe in his vision for the city," Eagan said. "I do it for pure love of the cause.
