Grads produce, undergrads consume
Carrie Cutler | October 20Now that I’ve been in graduate classes and on both sides of an undergraduate classroom, I want to apologize to most of my undergraduate professors.

Editor, I am writing in response to two items that appeared on your opinion page Oct. 7. Congratulations to Arun Anand Ahuja for the satirical column on China.
Editor, I am writing concerning the series of recent letters from Muhajir Romero, especially “Muslims should fight oppression with force,” published this Wednesday. It’s fanatics like Muhajir that give religions a bad name.
I recently read a Daily Lobo article about the possibility of constructing new student housing at UNM and, like always, this article reinforced my belief that the current administration is wholly incompetent and, hey, also shows contempt for the student population.
Editor, I would like to take this opportunity to disavow myself from any statements I made in the past disparaging those Muslims who are fighting against the enemies of Islam.
Editor, Another UNM football game, another loss: this one 49-7. Really? Sirs, as a decade-long resident of New Mexico, I have been watching the slowly deteriorating situation inside UNM’s Athletics Department.
I applaud the idealistic kids taking part in the “Occupy ABQ” movement, and I stand with them in their efforts to create a more equitable future for everyone. The complaints that they lack cohesiveness or any specific agenda are utterly irrelevant.
Editor, This letter is in response to Monday’s opinion column “Money, War, and Religion Breed Fascism.” Arun Ahuja’s column was one of the most offensive things I have read in the Daily Lobo.
The dynamics between Occupy Albuquerque on the UNM campus and the UNM Administration remind me of three influences that may eat into the intellectual fabric of any public university, anywhere in the world. The most obvious of these is capitalism.
Editor, I have recently come across a few articles in the Daily Lobo in regards to the protest and removal of Chick-fil-A.
Editor, I was very excited when I came across the headline for the comedy article in Wednesday’s Daily Lobo … then very disappointed once I got three paragraphs in, to read of comics bashing the very people who come to support their acts.
Editor’s note: This letter is in reference to the letter, “UNM’s actions violate First Amendment rights” by Don McIver published in Tuesday’s issue of the Daily Lobo. Editor, I was furious to read this letter, not so much because it supported the protesters, but because Mr. McIver made some fairly thoughtless assertions about the institution of UNM and its responsibilities.
Editor, There is a movement spreading across America. People from completely different political ideologies are coming together to stop the thievery and piracy of the wealthiest 1 percent.
Editor, After a long, frustrating day, my husband asked me, “How was the graduation workshop today?” “In a nutshell, it was expensive, time-consuming and unnecessary,” I replied.
I would like to offer some reasons for why I support the Occupy Albuquerque and Occupy Wall Street protesters across the country, and why I would like to see everyone in this community support them financially and thank them. I hope the movement grows and strengthens. Wall Street and corporate America, as has been reported many times, are rolling in money.
Editor, When did UNM become no better than a banana republic, hiding behind the buzzword of “safety” and lurking behind proper permits? Sure, Karen Wentworth can hide behind University policy as justification for the removal of the protesters, but weren’t the protesters camping out on University property the whole week before?
Spend time in any online chat room or try to have a conversation about social change and a common trait of our species becomes evident. Pessimistic comments on our shared political and economic disaster dominate the interaction: nothing can change, we’re headed inevitably toward some sort of corporate state, welcome to the machine, resistance is useless, the list goes on. People get on their soapboxes at that point to tell everyone they saw it coming.
Editor, In Wednesday’s letter, “Media had no evidence al-Awlaki was a terrorist,” Muhajir Romero made several accusations about the Western media lying about al-Awlaki being a terrorist. I think Mr. Romero needs to get his facts straight.
Editor, Bill O’Reilly has said that he believes the moon is not the result of a collision of a meteor with Earth, but that it is a special creation of God.
My fellow Americans! Are you, like me, sick and tired of looking within our own borders for the cause of our economic downturn only to realize that the root of all our problems, including why our laundry doesn’t dry fast enough, can be traced to just one dirty country just a thousand miles from our shores?
