Editor, First, I’d like to thank the students who protested at Monday’s budget summit. And despite the prolonged meeting, many returned to speak their minds during public comment and did so eloquently, intelligently and successfully.

GPSA Council should ratify amended constitution

Editor, On Saturday, the GPSA Council approved a new constitution to be placed on the general election ballot. This proposed constitution is the result of hundreds of hours of work by the GPSA Constitution Committee, as well as several hours of debate and fine-tuning at the council meeting.

“My throat hurts.” That is one of the most common complaints we hear at Student Health and Counseling, often followed by vivid descriptive imagery like “drinking acid,” “swallowing needles,” or “killing me.” Sore throat, being so common, deserves a review of its causes and cures. Dry air is a common culprit.

Editor, Electronic dance music (EDM) is being played everywhere, and by just about everyone. The hard-hitting bass beats that pulsate from the speakers of club DJs are traveling from the dark dance floors and illegal massive raves of their founding straight into the ears of mainstream America.

Poor students should not be subsidizing UNM shortfalls

Editor, I am writing in response to Daily Lobo reporter Shaun Griswold’s piece, “Tuition bump on the horizon,” to express my disappointment that the ASUNM president is “optimistic” that tuition will go up by 8-10 percent. Translation: He is “optimistic” that New Mexico resident undergraduates will enjoy a $300 tuition increase for fall 2011.

Media focuses more on Japan nuclear tragedy, not heroism

Editor, We are members of UNM’s Student Chapter of the American Nuclear Society. Our organization is dedicated to the study and application of nuclear processes as applied to the service of human energy needs and to other fields of study. As you know, the earthquake and tsunami affecting Japan served as the initiating cause for an accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Generating Station, about 235 miles north of Tokyo.
