Last fall when I announced my intention to vote for Ralph Nader for the fourth time, I was told by a number of Democrats that a vote for Nader was essentially a vote for four more years of Bush. I disagreed with them at the time, but it turns out they were right.
Editor, The U.S. Congress established the Days of Remembrance as this country's annual commemoration of Holocaust victims. These victims include not only 6 million Jews, but also millions of others killed by the Nazi regime including the mentally and physically handicapped, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, Soviet prisoners of war, Roma (Gypsies), non-Jewish Polish citizens, socialists, trade unionists and political dissidents.
Editor, In response to the recent controversy surrounding the proposal of a new recreation center, I decided to draft a plan for an alternative to this $57 million center. My plan is cheaper and more energy efficient. I call it this: going outside. If or when my plan of going outside is implemented, an endless myriad of recreational activities will be available to students at virtually no cost.
Editor, Building a new recreation center would be ridiculous for three reasons. First, the survey method was faulty. If you asked me today if I wanted a Bugatti Veyron, I would say yes. If you asked me today if I wanted a Bugatti Veyron that would cost me $1.
Editor, I recently spoke with an adviser in the Anderson School of Management. Though the advisers in University College have bad reputations for being unhelpful, this adviser showed no improvement. As an adviser for the 3-2 Program with Anderson, she works with both undergrad and grad students.
Editor, It was hard to read the shocking ad "Are you a student?" from Bradley R. Smith, Committee for Open Debate on the Holocaust, in last week's Daily Lobo by a Holocaust denier. I assume the Lobo has to publish this ad because apparently there is nothing in it that could justify refusing it.
Editor, Last week there was an article in the Daily Lobo that said UNM is a bad neighbor. It seemed to imply that UNM doesn't do enough for the community. We at the UNM Agora Crisis Center are hoping this attitude is not felt by all in the New Mexico community.
Editor, I have received two degrees from UNM since I first started attending classes in 1991. Just recently, I decided to go after another degree that has lower-level coursework requirements. To save money (as well as protest the current UNM president's administration), I decided to switch to CNM for a few semesters.
Editor, One problem I have with ASUNM and the student elections at UNM is the profound lack of relevant information about the political issues at hand and the student candidates themselves. I would like to think that I keep myself pretty well-informed about the issues that affect my University and the systems that make it work.
I am deeply humbled by the support of those who voted for me, and I promise my administration will make it a priority to also represent those students who voted for my opponent. Now, it is time to get to work. Though there is more than one month before I take office, it is essential to get started establishing the administrative team that will represent UNM graduate and professional students.
Editor, It is disappointing when reading opinions from people who are either misinformed or so blatantly biased that they fail to acknowledge another's point of view. An opinion article from two weeks ago was a perfect example of why there has been so much mistrust and finger-pointing at our University.

For our University's current situation, more relevant words were never spoken. We all feel the economic and academic crunch, the limitless weight bearing down upon us, making even the most courageous of us sweat.
Editor, With the 2009 ASUNM election coming up, I have given a lot of thought as to whom I will be supporting. As a current ASUNM senator, I have seen the work and time commitments that are required to hold an office. I have had the opportunity to work closely with Monika Roberts and David Conway as members of the Finance Committee.
Editor, I read the letter by Beth Johnson and the rebuttal by Michael Westervelt. I found them both to be very interesting. I think Westervelt misses the point because of two factors. First, ASUNM did try to push through a vote of confidence in an administration that confidence parted ways with some time ago.
