Editor, The last few days have surely been proud ones for the Bush administration. It has secured victory in its fourth war since Sept. 11, 2001. Four wars? Yes, four wars that are all part of a master plan. Going backwards, we have the war with Iraq.

Editor, I am writing in response to Scott Darnell’s column in the April 4 Lobo. I agree with Darnell’s sentiment. I am part of a majority group — a heterosexual Anglo male, though I was born into the lower class. I knew that to ascend social class, I would have to do well in school and get a good education to get a good job.
According to a recent report, criminal inmate populations grew 11.1 percent last year in New Mexico. With national incarceration rates at an historical high, seeking to lower the number of felonious perpetrators entering into the prison system would seem to be the next logical step for our governing body to take.
Editor, A man named Theodore Hesburgh once said, “The very essence of leadership is that you have to have a vision.” We feel this could not be truer. On April 16, you will elect a president, vice president and 10 senators to your undergraduate student government (ASUNM).
Editor, UNM faculty, staff and its students have no understanding of other races except their own kind. I guess that mentality comes from their parents’ upbringing and from society’s bleak outlook on Aboriginal cultures and the gritty nature of “the white man’s” oppression of “colored” peoples in America and around the world.

Editor, Today, the regents of the University of New Mexico will meet at 1:30 p.m. in the Roberts Room of Scholes Hall to, among other things, set tuition for the 2003-04 academic year (about a 4.5 percent increase) and approve a recommended average percent salary increase (3 percent) for staff and faculty at UNM.

Editor, The opportunity has come for the students of UNM to get a glimpse of our next president of the University of New Mexico. Beginning this week and during the following two weeks, the final five UNM presidential finalists will be on campus visiting our University.
Editor, As the spring season comes into full bloom all across the University of New Mexico campus, colorful campaign messages written with chalk and typed onto fliers also begin making their yearly appearance. Time is quickly approaching for the ASUNM Spring Election, which will be held on April 16.

Editor, I woke up last Thursday morning and the first thing I heard was the question, “Did you guys see ‘poon’ written everywhere?” I knew already that this was certainly a more interesting morning than usual. Last Thursday, as I rose to attend my classes, I saw something juvenile; a 16 foot-tall “POON” written on the Zimmerman Library building’s front brick.
Editor, Scott Darnell is a visionary. His eloquent description of the issues plaguing America today is only weakened by his reluctance to take his philosophy to its end. Followers of Darnell’s philosophy should first adopt a uniform dress so that they may be easily identified.
Editor, What is on your Horizon? That is the question that we are posing to the student body. On April 16, you will have the opportunity to elect your new undergraduate student government leaders in the ASUNM election. We want to educate you and convince you that your vote will not be wasted on our slate, Horizon.
Editor, I take the role of civil police seriously. However, in the past few years I have had a few run-ins with the police at parties, on the road, even at my house, that have really left my confidence in their role "to serve and protect" unsure at best.
