LETTER: Terrorist attacks a wake-up call

I know many of us are tired of discussing, hearing and reading about last week's tragic events. However, I believe the catastrophic loss of life was a wake-up call to American society and to us as human beings. It was a wake-up call because in many ways we let it happen.

LETTER: War would further upset world

All in together now - we're going to war. There's no stopping us. Under such volatile circumstances, we shall confidently throw the dice on the board for a game of Risk with the grandeur of Armageddon. It's time for the showdown of good against evil.

LETTER: Saying U.S. provoked attack is blasphemous

I am writing in response to the sentiment that, "rather than engaging in military retaliation we should enter into a period of introspection to think about what we have done, as a country, to provoke these attacks," that has been bandied about campus. As a thinking woman, I am insulted and outraged.

Those who blame U.S policy should leave

On Wednesday, in my political science class on civil wars, we discussed Tuesday's tragedy. Some students had the audacity to outright say it was the fault of the United States.

COLUMN: Diversion from recent tragedy

I spent most of Tuesday and Wednesday waiting to hear from my family and friends in New York. By Wednesday night, most were accounted for and safe. Hate-mongering, bigotry as bad as terrorists' acts

I realize that this is a subject that has already been addressed numerous times on radio and in the pages of the Daily Lobo since Tuesday's events. However, I feel that it is of such importance that it cannot be discussed enough.

LETTER: Country must stand behind national leaders, have pride

We mourn those who have suffered great and disastrous loss during the past few days. On Tuesday, our very way of life, the very freedom that we hold dear, came under attack. But, as Franklin Roosevelt said the day after Pearl Harbor was attacked, "No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory ."

LETTER: Tragedy gives life new meaning

At 7:15 a.m. on Sept. 11, I kissed my sleepy husband goodbye just like every morning. Like every morning, we said, "I love you," and our individual days began. It wasn't until I reached the office that I discovered the horrors unfolding on the East Coast.

Only love can break cycle of hate

As we begin to make sense of what has to be the most awesome display of hatred in recent memory, our planet is once again set into motion as we act out our emotions.

I dedicate these words to those who have just lost their lives and to everyone on this earth. It is times like this that we all must embrace our humanity.
