Men's Basketball: Lobos face Stanford in NCAAs Friday

Some call Stanford the “Harvard of the West” because of its reputation for high academic excellence, but New Mexico basketball fans hope that’s where the similarities end. The No. 7 seed Lobos open NCAA tournament play against the 10th-seeded Cardinal Friday at 11:40 a.m. MT in St. Louis, looking to avoid a repeat of last year’s stunning upset to Harvard.

Men's Basketball: Lobos' next chapter begins as No. 7 seed at NCAAs

“To win the conference was a big relief because as a coach you felt like you let them down a little bit not winning Saturday (March 8),” New Mexico coach Craig Neal said on Monday. “Now we start a new chapter, and our guys have been pretty resilient and played at a high level.” That chapter begins this week at the NCAA tournament.

Men's Basketball: Lobos three-peat as MW tourney champs

Over the last three years, but especially over the last three weeks, New Mexico and San Diego State have staked a claim as the premier rivalry in the Mountain West. Their season’s third meeting, this time for the tournament championship, didn’t disappoint. At the end, UNM cut down the nets at the Thomas & Mack Center for the third straight time.

Men's Basketball: UNM, SDSU in MW tournament final

New Mexico gets another crack at San Diego State for a Mountain West title. This time, it’ll be for the conference tournament crown. UNM, ranked No. 20 nationally, moved into the game following a narrow 70-67 victory over Boise State in Thursday night’s late semifinal. SDSU advanced following its win over UNLV.

Improvement takes time with a young team. Developing through the growing pains has been a focal point for the New Mexico baseball team thus far this season. Following an 8-5 loss to Arizona State University (8-6), head coach Ray Birmingham said that his team has been taking strides in terms of development

Men's Basketball: Lobos to play Fresno State in MW tournament

Fresno State’s Mountain West Basketball Championship first-round game against Air Force resembled its regular-season. The Bulldogs were down early but came back to advance. Fresno State completed a late-game rally after trailing for much of the game and captured a 61-59 victory over the Falcons Wednesday evening at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Men's Basketball: SDSU edges out UNM for MW title

SAN DIEGO — A monumental collapse dropped the New Mexico men’s basketball team into the No. 2 seed for next week’s Mountain West Basketball Championships. The Lobos let a 16-point lead slip away at Viejas Arena in San Diego on Saturday, and San Diego State rallied for a 51-48 victory in the regular-season finale.

Softball: Lobos capture first series sweep, drop Detroit

Home games have provided a luxurious safe-haven for the New Mexico softball team after a horrific start to the season. UNM (7-14) completed its first sweep of the season and has won six of their last seven games at Lobo Field. Head coach Erica Beach said that coming home has done wonders to get the team back into the mentality that they need.

A monumental collapse dropped the New Mexico men’s basketball team into the No. 2 seed for next week’s Mountain West Basketball Championships. The Lobos let a 16-point lead slip away at Viejas Arena in San Diego on Saturday, and San Diego State rallied for a 51-48 victory in the regular-season finale. UNM had won the last two MW regular-season crowns, including a share with SDSU in 2012.

Weeks ago San Diego State and New Mexico positioned themselves for a season-ending battle for the Mountain West regular-season men’s basketball title. Both sides accomplished their tasks and that showdown has come to fruition.
