Spikers drop set to Utah, Cougars

Staff report The UNM volleyball team lost two matches in Johnson Arena over the weekend to conference foes, 22nd-ranked, University of Utah and Brigham Young University. The losses drop the Lobos to 7-16 overall and 2-8 in MWC play. Utah 3, UNM 1 The Lobos dropped the opening game to the Utes 30-19 but roared back in the second game, taking Utah to extra points and prevailing 32-30.

Tonight is Hockey Night at UNM. So is Saturday. Hockey at UNM? You better believe it. UNM's club hockey team, the Ice Wolves, has been active since 1996. The Ice Wolves (1-4-1) are now in their sixth year. The team, which plays the University of Northern Colorado this weekend, is proving that they have the speed, strength and talent to play with some of the top clubs in the region.

UNM goes from defenseless to dominant by getting physical

by Lee Cornell Daily Lobo It was a tale of two halves for the UNM defense in Saturday's football match-up with the University of Utah. In the first half, the Lobos defense looked like a block of Swiss cheese. On the Utes first offensive play, Utah receiver Josh Lyman went 73 yards untouched on a screen pass to the right side and all the way into the end zone for a quick 7-0 lead less than two minutes into the game.

UNM quarterback Casey Kelly and tennis player Maja Kovacek are this week's Daily Lobo Athletes of the Week. Kelly led the Lobos to a much-needed 42-35 victory over Utah. He completed 11 of 23 passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns including an 80-yard strike to wide receiver Dwight Counter.
