Staff Report The UNM women's soccer team swept its road trip this weekend, shutting out Mountain West Conference foes San Diego State University and the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. Sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Winters recorded her third shutout in a row - her sixth of the year.

MWC games the pits for volleyball

The UNM Volleyball team found the switch from Johnson Center to University Arena to be the pits this weekend, losing Mountain West Conference matches to the University of Wyoming 3-1 Friday and Colorado State University 3-1 Saturday. Wyoming 3, UNM 1 The Lobos, who went without starting outside hitter Anna Reines, played the Cowgirls close, but weren't able to counter Wyoming's big hitters, junior Michele Rauter and sophomore Sara Maytorena.

Tennis scores Balloon Fiesta Invite sweep

Staff Report UNM senior Bart Scott led an impressive showing as the Lobo men's tennis team swept the singles and doubles championships at the Balloon Fiesta Invitational this weekend at the Lobo Tennis Club. Scott dominated singles competition sweeping into the finals without losing a set.

Millea, UNM defense dominate Rebels

by Michael Beniash Daily Lobo Under the bright lights of Las Vegas, senior back-up quarterback Justin Millea and the Lobos' defense upset the University of Nevada at Las Vegas 25-16 Saturday, spoiling the Rebels' homecoming. Millea, filling in for injured junior quarterback Casey Kelly, displayed avid running skills in his first-ever start at quarterback for UNM.

Lobos rested, ready for UNLV

The UNM football team hopes that the combination of a week off and a visit to Sin City will be the right recipe to snap a two-game losing streak. The revamped Lobos travel to Las Vegas this weekend to take on the University of Nevada at Las Vegas in a Mountain West Conference match up that could make or break the season.

The 2002-03 UNM men's and women's basketball teams will give eager fans a preview of the upcoming season Saturday at The Pit in the annual Lobo Howl. The Howl will follow the Lobo volleyball team's match against Colorado State University at about 8 p.m. An autograph session with team members will be held, as well as the men's slam-dunk competition and 3-point shootout for the women.

Staff report The UNM women's soccer team defeated Portland State University Sunday take one of two matches its final pair of non-conference road games. The Lobos (7-5-0) lost to Oregon State University (7-2-2) Friday, but bounced back against the Division I-AA Vikings Sunday afternoon to get a second road trip split in as many weekends.

UNM spikers find roadtrip to Utah unkind

Staff Report The UNM volleyball team lost two road matches this weekend to Mountain West Conference rivals Brigham Young University and the University of Utah. Utah 3, UNM 1 On Friday, the Lobos traveled to 20th-ranked Utah and got off to a good start winning the first game 30-25.

MWC gets four weekend wins

Mountain West Conference teams won four-of-five non-conference games on this, the final full weekend of non-conference play. Wyoming 34, The Citadel 30 Derek Armah rushed for a career high 181 yards and scored the winning touchdown with 6:12 left as the University of Wyoming snapped a school-record 12-game losing streak.

Gonzales leads Lobos to eighth at OSU invite

Staff Report Led by junior Sarah Gonzales, the University of New Mexico women's cross country team ran to an eighth place finish in a field of 16 teams at the 66th annual Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla. Gonzales, now fully recovered from an early season illness, led the team for the second straight race.

Showdown at the Lobo Corral

What started out as a soccer match ended more like a showdown at the OK Corral when UNM finally scored in double overtime for a 1-0 victory on Sunday Afternoon. Coming off two losses on the road, the Lobos returned to the UNM Soccer Complex determined to keep their undefeated home record in tact.

Staff Report The UNM volleyball team is on a five-match winning streak, but it will have its hands full when it visits the Utah Utes on Friday. Utah was recently ranked 20th in the AVCA poll but is coming off a tough five-game loss to San Diego State University.

Cross country team jets to NCAA top 30

by Michael Beniash Daily Lobo High elevation and the rolling landscape of the Land of Echantment are proving to play a pivotal role for the University of New Mexico men's cross country squad. Ten of 11 runners on the Lobos team are native New Mexicans, with lone out-of-state runner Leighton Katsuda, heralding from Wailuku, Hawaii.
