Bible still relevant because humans haven't changed

Editor, I am writing in response to Richard Berthold's column published in the Daily Lobo on Nov. 16. Though there are many issues in the column one can address, I want to confine myself to his main conclusion, which is that the Bible cannot be accepted as history.

Runner outpaces adversity

A couple of years ago, Jeremy Johnson was told he probably wouldn't be able to race again. However, Johnson has managed to compile one heck of a career as a UNM cross country and track and field athlete - and there's a chance he isn't done yet.

Science sees evolution as accurate model of reality

Editor, Evolution is both a theory and a fact. As a doctor and scientist at UNM, I would like to clarify where science actually stands on the issue of evolution. Richard Berthold, in his column published in the Daily Lobo on Nov. 16, claims: "Like Darwinian evolution, the idea that the Earth circles the sun is just a theory.

3-pointers fly when Lobo hits the court

When opposing teams watch game film on the UNM basketball team, there's one thing they will learn quickly: Don't play too much zone defense. The Lobos have come out the gate like a racehorse, in part because of their effectiveness from beyond the 3-point line.

Don't ponder the afterlife; today is more important

Editor, From my early childhood on, my mother took me with her to many funerals of relatives, friends, neighbors and acquaintances. From an early age, I learned life is not certain. Tomorrow is not guaranteed to any of us. My mother often made me aware that we can never say for sure that we will do something or go somewhere next week or five years from now.

Treating scientific claims as opinion means trouble

Editor, I am greatly offended by the blatant ignorance of Dennis Kinzler's two letters. Both of them represent a dangerous distortion of scientific evidence and reasoning that threatens not just the legitimacy of scientific pursuit in the eyes of the public, but also the ability of people to recognize legitimate scientific warnings and respond appropriately.
