Trigger-happy discipline is wrong

Tuesday night, Estero High School in Estero, Fla., held its graduation ceremonies. One of the graduating seniors was not allowed to attend. Lindsay Brown, a National Merit Scholar and honor student who had never before been in trouble at school, was suspended for having a kitchen knife in her car.

It’s not uncommon to see UNM student Ben Tucker wearing a papier-mÉchÇ capitalist pig mask or a cheerleading outfit as he screams, “My back is achin’. My bra’s too tight. My booty’s shakin’ from left to right. Shout it out — revolution!”

Professor is deserving of award

We are responding to a letter in the May 1 Daily Lobo from Bob Anderson. He seems confused about why professor Mohammed El-Genk was chosen as the 46th Annual Research Lecturer and wrote, “I am greatly disappointed that UNM gave a prestigious award, several thousand dollars and time off to someone who is basically using our school to help the military wage war in space.” This comment is inaccurate and unfair.

Duo not your ordinary freshmen

In some ways UNM softball players Amy Dumas and Hayley Punter are treated like any other freshmen. They get hassled by their teammates, have to carry the upperclassmen’s bags and are required to put away equipment after practices.
