Police shoot a flash bang and order James Boyd to drop to the ground. Boyd turns away from officers, a knife in each hand. They fire at him. He hits the ground. Officers shout “Drop the knife.” They fire bean-bag rounds at him, and then let loose a K-9 officer.

Vigil held for James Boyd

Eyrie Brian Faulkner stood at the foot of Copper Trail Head on Wednesday evening and watched as more than 100 people ascended to the scene where James Boyd had been shot. Faulkner had known Boyd, but wounds in his hip and knee prevented him from climbing the hill.

On March 24, UNMPD was dispatched to the Centennial Engineering Center in reference to a report made about an unknown suspect who tipped a motorcycle on its side. According to the report, the red Honda Shadow exhibited damage to its right handlebar, pipes and fuel filter.

About 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute, but very few videos are seen by a large audience very quickly, according to YouTube’s website. Nicholas Riali, a university studies major, said one video on his YouTube channel has gone viral.

"Peaceful" protests tend to lack efficacy

Sunday’s protest in Albuquerque brought attention to the long-standing problem of police violence and stirred public debate on protest methods. Critics claim that this unruly behavior detracted from the protesters’ cause by disrupting the lives of fellow citizens and requiring costly public services to contain the outrage. Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry said, “they’ve taken it far beyond a normal protest.” But what is a “normal” protest?

April Fools Day Special: Spider-Man — Friend or foe to UNM campus?!

The Spider-Man visited the Duke City to help put an end to a marauding gang on campus. The obtuse gang of mathletes had become an acute problem on campus, a UNMPD office said. Members were reported to have been telling other students to go cosine themselves. The gang most recently had beaten a group of biology majors to within a faction of their lives.

APD’s critics convene to hash out demands

As protests against the Albuquerque Police Department subsided Monday, protesters came up with three demands for police. At a community forum held at the Albuquerque Peace and Justice Center on Monday night, more than 50 APD protesters voted to declare their concrete demands against the department’s excessive use of violence in the city.
