Sarah Cornell, assistant history professor, will present the final lecture of the 2009 Borderlands Lecture Series on April 30. Sarah Cornell: The lecture will look at the ideas and experiences of the diverse peoples who lived between the Southeast and Mexico over the course of the 19th century.
Editor, The U.S. Congress established the Days of Remembrance as this country's annual commemoration of Holocaust victims. These victims include not only 6 million Jews, but also millions of others killed by the Nazi regime including the mentally and physically handicapped, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, Soviet prisoners of war, Roma (Gypsies), non-Jewish Polish citizens, socialists, trade unionists and political dissidents.
The three resolutions left off of the GPSA ballot last month passed with little opposition last week. Graduate and professional students voted no confidence in former Regents President Jamie Koch and requested an external audit and a re-evaluation of decision-making structures at UNM.

A single rectangular sticker can show lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people that they have somebody they can talk to about their sexual identity if they need to, said Kevin Hallgren, co-organizer of the LGBTQ Safe Zone training. Hallgren said the sticker, an upside-down, rainbow-colored triangle with the words "Safe Zone" underneath, will also communicate that the person wearing the sticker is an ally to LGBTQ people.
Editor, In response to the recent controversy surrounding the proposal of a new recreation center, I decided to draft a plan for an alternative to this $57 million center. My plan is cheaper and more energy efficient. I call it this: going outside. If or when my plan of going outside is implemented, an endless myriad of recreational activities will be available to students at virtually no cost.
In Friday's story about SDSU's Stephen Strasburg, it was reported that he struck out only 20 batters. He has 121 strikeouts, after fanning 14 batters in Friday's game against the Lobos. The error was made in reporting.

The UNM football team's final spring practice finished in stirring fashion, with the Cherry-Silver scrimmage coming down to a last-minute field goal. In contrast to last year's 35-7 Cherry win, this year's game highlighted a balanced mix from both squads.
Editor, I recently spoke with an adviser in the Anderson School of Management. Though the advisers in University College have bad reputations for being unhelpful, this adviser showed no improvement. As an adviser for the 3-2 Program with Anderson, she works with both undergrad and grad students.
Editor, It was hard to read the shocking ad "Are you a student?" from Bradley R. Smith, Committee for Open Debate on the Holocaust, in last week's Daily Lobo by a Holocaust denier. I assume the Lobo has to publish this ad because apparently there is nothing in it that could justify refusing it.
Rafael Neda took care of business for the UNM baseball team when it mattered most against San Diego State on Sunday at Isotopes Park, giving the Lobos a 2-1 series win. On Friday night, Lobo fans witnessed a pitching duel for the ages. Top prospect Stephen Strasburg shut out the Lobos in a 1-0 victory for the Aztecs, but the Lobos struck back, taking Game 2 12-4 on Saturday.
Editor, Last week there was an article in the Daily Lobo that said UNM is a bad neighbor. It seemed to imply that UNM doesn't do enough for the community. We at the UNM Agora Crisis Center are hoping this attitude is not felt by all in the New Mexico community.
Editor, I have received two degrees from UNM since I first started attending classes in 1991. Just recently, I decided to go after another degree that has lower-level coursework requirements. To save money (as well as protest the current UNM president's administration), I decided to switch to CNM for a few semesters.
In addition to final projects, papers and the pressure of registering for classes, students with 80 credit hours now have to attend a mandatory advisement seminar in order to remove a hold on their accounts. The college of Arts & Sciences instituted mandatory graduation-planning sessions last year.
