Editor,
The U.S. Congress established the Days of Remembrance as this country's annual commemoration of Holocaust victims. These victims include not only 6 million Jews, but also millions of others killed by the Nazi regime including the mentally and physically handicapped, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, Soviet prisoners of war, Roma (Gypsies), non-Jewish Polish citizens, socialists, trade unionists and political dissidents. The Days of Remembrance are April 19-26. During this time, we call upon the UNM community to not only remember this horrific event but to reflect on our responsibility to vigilantly resist hatred, persecution and tyranny, and to promote respect for all peoples.
