Land commissioner race awaits recount
Isabel Gonzalez and Dominic Aragon | November 19The unofficial results for the Nov. 4 general election show Republican Aubrey Dunn Jr. as the winner of the New Mexico land commissioner race — at least for now. The results were so close that incumbent Democrat Ray Powell still has a chance at retaining his position. Not every state offers a recount in the case of close elections, but New Mexico does. In this state, an automatic recount is required when the margin of votes between two candidates is “less than one-half of one percent of the total votes cast for that office”.
