Lobos stomp Aggies in front of 37,000

The University of New Mexico Lobo Football team showed out in front of their largest crowd since 2007, a sellout of 37,440 people, and dominated their rival, the New Mexico State University Aggies, sealing a 38–20 home victory.  Lobo Head Coach Jason Eck fed into the moment with his trademark intensity. After one play where a false-start penalty was called on NMSU, Eck turned toward the crowd and credited the fans for their impact.  “I want (the crowd) to know they have an impact on the game by making a lot of noise causing that guy to jump offsides,” Eck said.

United falls in close match to FC Tulsa

After a nail-biting night at New Mexico United’s home turf, fans were left disappointed as the team fell short, losing to FC Tulsa on Saturday, Sept. 13. United is currently at 10 wins, three draws and 10 losses.  The game began when University of New Mexico Lobos Football Head Coach Jason Eck helped United get first possession of the ball after winning a coin toss. The energy was high from the start, as both players and fans carried passion and hope that another victory would be added to their record. The first half played out much as United had envisioned, with sharp distribution and precise timing with smooth momentum.

New Mexico United dominates San Antonio FC in overtime

On Saturday, June 21, New Mexico United snatched another win — in a heart pounding overtime United surged past San Antonio FC and left the pitch having jumped to first place in the West Conference, after winning the game 4-2. Under the blazing sun United got ready to defend their winning record. The early minutes of the game unfolded slowly. Both teams were locked in a physical battle which resulted in multiple fouls causing United to earn a penalty kick. Jaylin Lindsey calmly stepped up and converted, putting New Mexico on the scoreboard with a confident strike.

Lobos close regular season with crucial home series

It was a bittersweet moment on Santa Ana Star Field on May 15-17, as the University of New Mexico Lobos played their final regular season series against the Fresno State University Bulldogs. When the series was all said and done the Lobos said goodbye to the regular season and set their eyes on the Mountain West Tournament. The Lobos started the series out with high energy and were ready to make their last home series count, for themselves and fans.

New Mexico United brings home another victory

On Saturday, April 26, New Mexico United faced off against Union Omaha, where it secured a 2-0 victory. United kicked off the first half of the game with a burst of energy, ready for what was to come. Fans packed the stands, ready to cheer on the team with traditional chants. United did not disappoint; it had a great first half.

Baseball: Final showdown ends in victory — Lobos sweep Aggies

The University of New Mexico Lobos faced off against the rival New Mexico State University Aggies for the last time this season and delivered a game-winning strikeout April 22, ending the final match up 7-6. The Lobos faced the Aggies four times this season, which all ended in victories. Leading 7-6 on the scoreboard and having two outs, the Lobos struck out the last batter, eliminating the possibilities of a tied game. This is the first time this season the Lobos had a one-run advantage over the Aggies, where victory was truly on the line.

Isotopes get a sting in their swing after loss to the Bees

On Thursday, April 3, the Albuquerque Isotopes played the Salt Lake Bees for the third game in the series. Both teams battled for the win, which led to a fairly close game with a 5-3 Salt Lake win. This loss marked the second for the Isotopes in the series. It was a tough 15-1 loss for the Isotopes on Tuesday, April 1, but they quickly recovered for Wednesday's game, winning 17-2. Thursday’s game was a challenge for both teams and it was tough to make runs, making the game one of the longest in the series so far.

Women’s basketball: Lobos take down Air Force 77-74 in final home game

On Tuesday, March 4, the University of New Mexico women's basketball team defeated Air Force Academy 77-74 in the final home game of the season before heading to the Mountain West Championship. There was an electric atmosphere in The Pit, as both teams were filled with high intensity and determination. The first quarter was rocky for the Lobos in certain areas, mainly on the defensive end. The Falcons took the lead and ended the quarter 24-19. The Lobos’ rebounding was solid for the majority of the second quarter. Both teams battled hard offensively. On the defensive side, the Lobos tightened up a bit, only allowing 14 points in the quarter. The Lobos led 42-38 at the end of the second.

What happened to UNM’s Undocumented website?

In January, the University of New Mexico took down its Undocumented UNM website due to outdated information and is instead routing students to the El Centro de la Raza website for resources, according to Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Cinnamon Blair. The website affirmed the University's commitment to “standing with and supporting our undocumented students and their families,” according to an archived version of it.

Baseball: Lobos win series against Rhode Island

The University of New Mexico baseball team won a four-game series against the Rhode Island Rams Friday, Feb. 28 through Sunday, March 2. The Lobos were in a game of tug-of-war with the Rams, but ultimately had a successful series with three wins and one loss. Friday's game was the first in the series and it truly showed how hard the Lobos were going to have to work that weekend. There was no moment of Friday's game that wasn’t competitive, but they ultimately lost 13-14.
