Editor,
As a product of the UNM Journalism program and rookie reporter, I was appalled and sorely disappointed to find out that Dr. Hall decided to kill the program.
I for one, feel well prepared for the real world of reporting, due in large part to my experiences at the Daily Lobo and instructors like Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez, Steve Brown and Bob Gassaway.
I am living, walking and breathing proof that the program is worth accreditation. Dr. Hall, this is truly a cowardly act and I am disgusted that someone would do this without thinking of the consequences to the students and to the UNM community at large.
Dr. Hall, I never, in four years, even so much as met you; perhaps that is why you found it so easy to withdraw the accreditation application, because you have no contact with students. And what about the Fourth Estate and going places where the general public cannot go? Who is going to keep tabs on the government? Who is going to keep tabs on UNM? What are you telling students by killing their school?
On the other hand, this is truly beauracracy at its best. Who could not see it coming? The neglected stepchild of UNM has finally got what has been coming to them for years.

Yes, the school has problems. Yes, you could receive a more prestigious degree from another university. But you know, the four years I spent at UNM were the best four years of my life thus far. I would not trade my life at UNM for anything.
Please take a look at the students you are affecting and don't ignore the journalism program.
