Editor,
The recent Daily Lobo stories and letters about the use of the UNM NetID in this spring's GPSA election provide an opportunity to clarify some details about the UNM NetID.
Several years ago, CIRT gave a new name to the computer account log-on identification it provides to the general UNM community. This was used to access a few services such as e-mail, a calendar and Web page authoring.
It soon became apparent that this identification would become the access authentication for a wider variety of online services and would be more than simply a conduit to an e-mail service.
The CIRT log-on identification was renamed the UNM NetID. Various methods were used to communicate the fact that everyone in the UNM community needs a NetID - regardless of what e-mail service each person uses - as UNM moves to providing more services online.
Online services that require a UNM NetID include:
* Library documents online
* Parking Services' online services
* UNM's portal, my.unm.edu
* Graduate student elections
* Graduation sign-up
* WebCT
Get content from The Daily Lobo delivered to your inbox
* Web grade entry for faculty
* Web class lists for faculty
* Banner finance system
* Oracle Calendar utility
* UNM Directory and home address updating (DSS)
* Registration to use UNM's wireless network in the SUB and the libraries
* CIRT software download page
This is not even a comprehensive list of services available with a UNM NetID. Additional University services that will be available online include more Banner applications, which will provide students financial aid, human resource and payroll services. They will require authentication with a UNM NetID.
CIRT encourages all members of the University community to create and use a UNM NetID as online services make all our lives a little easier. If you do not have a UNM NetID, go to
