Ahoy there, fellow schoolmaties. Welcome to a new school year at the UNM.
Many times during the semester, people come into the newsroom or ask those who work here questions about the way the paper works.
The crew at the Daily Lobo wanted to give our readers a fun and interesting look into the way the newspaper operates. If you check out the inside pages, you will find our pirate-themed explanation. Here you'll find a brief overview of the philosophy that drives this paper and its staff.
The staff at the Daily Lobo works hard all year to produce a quality publication and to give our readers the accurate information about what's happening on campus, in Albuquerque and the rest of the world.
This paper serves an important role on this campus and for our readers, especially the 26,000 students who attend UNM.
We face some challenges this year, since this is such a critical time for media. Journalists have had to give up their sources, papers have been caught printing false stories and college media faces censorship from school administrations.
These situations remind us we must continue to be relevant, accurate and provide the stories that matter to students most.
This newspaper will continue to maintain its independence on this campus so our stories can remain balanced, unbiased and factual.
We want to encourage our readers to contact us with their comments, potential stories and other ideas throughout the year.
We especially would like to encourage readers to send in letters expressing their opinions, since the opinion page serves as a space for dialogue between the diverse members of the UNM community.
So send us a message in a bottle. Yarr... We look forward to hearing from you. I hope this year is smooth sailing for everyone.
