Editor,
While listening to President Bush's speech about Hurricane Katrina, and thinking about how many diapers I could donate with $20, my kitten crawled into my lap and looked up at me with big yellow eyes that said, "Love me!"
It reminded me that while there are 1 million homeless people in the Gulf Coast, there are at least that many homeless pets. I know that animals are a low priority on many people's lists and I'm not asking to help only them.
But please, please take a couple of dollars, or some old towels and donate to the Animal Humane Association. I know if I was in a disaster, I would be devastated to lose not only my belongings or family members, but my furry companions as well.
So once you've given to Red Cross and once the people are squared away with the supplies they so desperately need, take the leftover change and help save somebody's fur-baby.
