Letter: Hare Krishna chanter has history of annoyance

Editor,

The Daily Lobo reporter, Rivkela Brodsky, is unaware of the campus history related to Sankirtan das, the Hare Krishna daily chanter and the subject of her story in Friday's Lobo.

The reason he is outside Popejoy Hall is because he previously spent a good 10 years chanting daily around noon in Smith Plaza in front of Zimmerman Library.

For me, what began as a mildly interesting aspect of campus life over time became an active annoyance at being held captive to him if I had to be there, and I knew of others working in the surrounding buildings who were similarly annoyed.

A few years ago, UNM responded to these complaints by moving him to the front of Popejoy, which seems to have been a good solution to the problem.
