Letter: Lobo reader's alternative State of the Union address

Editor,

I admit I did not give this a lot of

thought, and would probably add

to it if asked to deliver to the nation

and the world, but I think it is

a good start.

My State of the Union address

would be short and right to the

point. Here it is:

Good evening, good people of

this nation and the world.

I am compelled to admit, regrettably,

that some of the decisions

made by this administration and

the actions that were a result of

those decisions have added to the

violence and suffering in several

parts of the world instead of contributing

to peace and compassion

among people.

In addition to that, some of the

decisions made by this administration

have resulted in more people

not being able to obtain the medicines

they need, to people who became

the victims of natural disasters

continuing to suffer needless

hardships, and to the worsening of

environmental conditions in many

parts of the world.

As your president, I pledge to

you that, starting tomorrow, I will

seek the advice of competent people,

whatever their political or religious

affiliations may be, to assist

me in openly and honestly working

together to determine and carry

out the following:

First, to prioritize the real problems

that we have. Secondly, to

develop the most realistic and

compassionate solutions for those

problems. Lastly, to implement

the solutions we develop as soon

as possible.

My heartfelt sympathy is with all

those who were negatively affected

by the decisions of this administration,

and I sincerely request that

you pay close attention to what

happens in the weeks and months

that are about to begin. As you pay

close attention to the changes that

unfold, search your hearts and decide

if you desire that we continue

on our new path or that we step

aside. That decision is yours - and

yours alone - to make.

God blesses us all, no exceptions.

Good night.
