Letter: Regents think they can squeeze 'rich' students

Editor,

I just read in Monday's Daily Lobo that tuition is going up again in the fall.

This is my fourth year at UNM, and it seems that every year I have been here, tuition has gone up.

Where is all this money going? New building projects? Shouldn't the state pay for improvements to the University, or does that bill really fall to the students?

Do the regents want students to succeed academically, or do they just want us here so they can keep squeezing us dry?

I'll ask again. Where is this money going?

Maybe another pay increase for administrators - Lord knows they don't get paid enough for their jobs. Perhaps I'm just ticked because it seems that the University keeps taking more and more of my money, but hey, that's cool, because I'm a rich-as-hell college student just like the rest of my peers. Everyone knows that all college students are loaded, right?

It seems like that's what the regents think. I ask my fellow students, are you happy about this hike in tuition? Because I sure as hell am not happy about it, and I ask anyone who shares my feelings to make your voice heard.

Perhaps we as students can send the message that we aren't here for a financial bloodletting.
