Editor,
Getting involved in various organizations is a great way to make a difference. Becoming involved in the New Mexico Public Interest Research Group student chapter is an amazing option.
Members of NMPIRG are constantly active in campaigns such as the New Voters Project, Affordable Textbooks, Hunger and Homelessness and the Campus Climate Challenge. NMPIRG is a nonpartisan organization, so students from across the political spectrum can take this opportunity to get involved.
NMPIRG meets every Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the SUB.
It is true that not enough college students voted in previous elections, which is why NMPIRG's biggest focus at the moment is the New Voters Project. This is a national campaign to encourage students to not only register but also to flood the polls in the November elections. In 2004, the New Voter's Project became the largest grassroots youth voter mobilization effort in this country's history, and NMPIRG is making sure that this impact reaches New Mexico this year.
