Restaurant provides sushi addicts with tasty, cheap food

Column: Get your grub on

Sushi is addictive.

I've already been to all the sushi places near campus, so my habit led me to explore what else was around town to suppress the craving. That's when I came across I Love Sushi, an adorable sushi and teppanyaki restaurant.

As soon as I walked through the door, I was greeted by the owner, Tommy Yun. I chose to sit at the sushi bar and watched those who were craving cooked meat from afar.

Within seconds of taking my seat, I received a bowl of miso soup and a salad with fresh orange ginger dressing. I haven't experienced service this quick in a long time.

After looking over the menu, I decided on a few classics and a few things I'd never had. I ordered a veggie roll for $6 that wasn't like any I had ever tried. It was stuffed with egg, root, cucumber, avocado and futomaki, a type of sushi.

I also ordered shrimp tempura for $6.50, a caterpillar roll for $8.50 and

vegetable tempura for $6.95. All of the sushi was fresh, delicious and cheap by

sushi standards.

Not into the raw thing? No worries. I Love Sushi offers Japanese-style teppanyaki cooking that is not only a source of entertainment, but amazingly yummy as well. A chef prepares your food in front of you on a hot, table-sized griddle.

For lunch, a chicken meal is only $7.95. The restaurant has seafood and steak available in various combinations, with prices ranging from $8.95 to $16.95 for lunch and $14.95 to $25.95 for dinner. Each meal is served with miso soup, fried rice and grilled vegetables or salad.

After your meal, if you can still manage to fit in some dessert, you can't leave without trying the divine green tea ice cream for $2.25 or the fried tempura ice cream for $3.25.

So, no matter what you are in the mood for - a full meal, a snack or some dessert - I Love Sushi has something for everyone.

If you have never tried sushi, stop in for a first-time experience. You won't regret it.
