Restaurant serves the best sushi this side of the ocean

One of the most difficult things about living in a land-locked state is finding a decent sushi bar. I would have to say Crazy Fish is the closest thing to near-the-shore sushi I've had in New Mexico.

When I walked in the restaurant, it was decorated in a modern Japanese style with a red, black and white color scheme. I sat in a corner of the restaurant and watched the sushi chefs do their magic.

I settled on a few rolls that seemed particularly appealing and some veggie tempura to ease my hunger pains. When the tempura showed up, it was a glorious mound of lightly fried goodness. The tempura broccoli was my only complaint - raw batter seeped into the center.

When the sushi arrived, I was surprised with how large the portion sizes were. Instead of the pieces being mostly seaweed and rice, there were large pieces of fish in the rolls and the nigiri. Everything I ordered was fresh and flavorful. The caterpillar roll - eel, avocado, and cucumber - came with eight pieces and was filling.

I also had garlic sashimi for $9.50 and tried the crunchy roll for $7.50. If you don't enjoy raw fish, there are also fully cooked options and vegetarian sushi available. The American favorite, chicken noodle soup, is the best I've ever had.

Crazy Fish is slightly more expensive than some sushi bars, but it is well worth it. It's hard to find a sushi bar with good service, delicious food and great dÇcor, but this one has the whole package. I suggest Crazy Fish for anyone from first-time sushi eaters to sushi veterans.
